Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
The practice of making your pages more likely to show up, and rank well, in unpaid search results so you earn free traffic over time.
Search engine optimization, or SEO, is the work of making your pages more likely to appear, and rank well, in unpaid search results. The goal is organic traffic: visitors who find you through a search and cost you nothing per click.
SEO usually breaks into three parts:
Content = pages that genuinely answer what people search for
On-page = clear titles, structure, and fast loading
Off-page = other sites linking to and trusting yours
The reason SEO is worth learning is leverage. A page that ranks for a question people keep asking can bring visitors for months or years without an ongoing ad bill. Compared to paid traffic, which stops the day you stop paying, that is durable.
The tradeoff is time. SEO is slow. A new page can take many months to rank, and there is no button that guarantees a top spot. Search engines decide what ranks, and they change their methods regularly. Anyone promising instant number-one rankings is selling something they cannot deliver.
For beginners, the honest starting point is not tricks. It is writing pages that actually match what a searcher wants, then earning trust over time. To see how ranking pages turn into revenue, read how SEO makes money. To understand what searchers are really after, read search intent explained.
