Lead Magnet Checklist

A short checklist to make sure the free thing you offer for an email is actually worth handing over an address for.

A lead magnet is the free thing you give in exchange for an email address. A good one respects the trade. Run this checklist before you build yours.

Is it worth an email?

  • Does it solve one specific problem, not "everything about X"?
  • Is the benefit clear in the title alone?
  • Would someone pay a small amount for it? (Good sign if yes.)
  • Can it be consumed in one sitting (a page, a checklist, a short video)?

Does it fit your business?

  • Is it about the same topic as what you will eventually recommend?
  • Does it attract buyers, not just freebie seekers?
  • Does it lead naturally into your first few emails?

Is it easy to say yes to?

  • One clear promise on the sign-up form?
  • No wall of fields (email is usually enough)?
  • Delivered instantly after confirming?

After they join

  • Does a welcome email deliver it right away?
  • Does the follow-up teach before it sells?
Specific + fast + relevant + easy to claim = a list worth building
Generic + long + off-topic = downloads that never open your emails

Ideas that work: lead magnet ideas that actually work. Then: how to grow an email list from zero.
