Outline
Welcome Email Sequence Outline
A five-email welcome sequence outline that builds trust first and sells second, so new subscribers stay and open the next one.
The first few emails decide whether a subscriber stays. This outline earns trust before it asks for anything. Adjust the spacing to your own cadence.
The sequence
Email 1 (immediately) Deliver + welcome. Set expectations.
Email 2 (day 1) One genuinely useful idea. No ask.
Email 3 (day 2) Teach something that reframes the topic.
Email 4 (day 4) A short story or example. Build the relationship.
Email 5 (day 6) First soft recommendation, tied to what you taught.
What each email does
- Email 1, deliver and set expectations. Hand over the lead magnet. Say who you are, what you send, and how often. Ask them to reply or whitelist you.
- Email 2, pure value. Teach one useful thing with no link to buy anything. This trains them to open you.
- Email 3, reframe. Explain something most people get wrong. This is where they start to trust your judgment.
- Email 4, story. A short, honest story or worked example. People remember stories, and they build the relationship.
- Email 5, soft offer. Now, and only now, recommend something relevant to what you taught. Make the connection obvious.
Rules
- The best welcome email often sells nothing. It makes the next one get opened.
- Never buy or import a list into this. It only works on people who opted in.
- Honest subject lines. Curiosity is fine; lying burns the trust you just built.
