Tom Otto (@launch_llama) is a data engineer building Launch Llama from a campervan somewhere between Bali and the Australian outback, aiming at a $10k MRR goal he says he is about 30% of the way to. He is the loudest distribution evangelist in this directory ("stop building and start distributing", "your tool needs more eyes, not more features"), and unlike most people who preach that, he has the business and the receipts to back it. This is our independent read of how the account behaves, in numbers. He did not write it, and it is not something he can change by claiming a product.

The play is the reply grind, run harder and smarter than almost anyone here. He posts around ten times a day, a deliberate mix: founder-question threads that pull hundreds of replies, "drop your startup, the best get featured in my newsletter" calls, all-caps motivational one-liners, distribution hot takes, transparent revenue and impression updates, and nomad-lifestyle posts. Then he replies, by his own posts 150 to 200 times a day, down from 300, roughly twenty thousand replies lifetime. He even documents the mechanics: promote founders, not your product's account, because people watch people. It is the exact behavior half this directory is doing. The difference is where it points.

Here is the difference, and it is the whole lesson. For Ahmad the reply grind reaches other founders and his apps are for consumers, so it leaks. For Tom the people he grinds are founders, and his product is a directory plus a 55,000-founder newsletter that he sells featured spots and sponsorships in. The audience he builds by hand is not adjacent to his buyers, it is his buyers, twice over: founders list their tools, and sponsors pay to reach those founders. So the grind converts, and he shows the numbers, roughly $3,275 in the last thirty days and climbing. This is the answer to the question the whole directory keeps asking. Reply-grinding does make money, but only when the audience you grind is the market you sell to, and Tom is the cleanest working example of it. It is Daniel's pattern at newsletter scale, and it is worth studying precisely because so little of it is luck. The plays are in the panel, and Launch Llama is below.

On X

Based on his recent weeks. The reply rate is his own documented figure; our capture window caught fewer.

Posting

9/ day

High volume and strategic: founder-question threads, 'drop your startup, the best get featured in my 55k newsletter' calls, all-caps motivational one-liners, distribution hot takes, revenue and impression milestones, and nomad-lifestyle posts. About 10 a day.

Commenting

175/ day

Reply-guy grinding at scale. By his own posts, 150 to 200 replies a day (down from 300), and he asks nearly everyone 'how are your impressions going?' to spark reciprocal engagement. Around 20k lifetime replies.

  • His whole thesis is distribution: 'stop building and start distributing', 'your tool needs more eyes, not more features', and a growth hack he preaches, promote founders not product accounts because people watch people.
  • Transparent with the receipts: by his own numbers, about $3,275 in the last 30 days (directory roughly $1.4k MRR, newsletter ads roughly double it), building toward a $10k MRR goal, around 30% there.
  • The audience and the product are the same market. He grinds founders on X, and his product is a directory plus a 55k to 65k founder newsletter that he sells featured spots and sponsorships in. The grind reaches the exact buyers.
