Niche
A specific, focused topic or audience a business targets, rather than trying to appeal to everyone at once.
A niche is a specific, focused topic or audience that a business chooses to serve, instead of trying to appeal to everyone. "Fitness" is not a niche, it is an enormous market. "Strength training for people over fifty" is a niche.
Beginners often resist narrowing down, because a smaller audience feels like smaller opportunity. In practice, focus usually helps. When you speak to a specific group, your content feels more relevant, you rank more easily in search because there is less competition, and readers trust that you understand their situation.
Broad: Making money online (huge, crowded, vague)
Niche: Making money with print-on-demand for pet owners
The skill is picking a niche that is narrow enough to stand out but wide enough to sustain a business. Too broad and you compete with everyone and connect with no one. Too narrow and there may not be enough people, or enough products to promote, to earn a living.
A useful test is whether you can name the specific person you are talking to, and whether that group has money they are willing to spend on solving their problem. A passionate audience with nothing to buy is a hobby, not a business.
You do not have to get this perfect on day one. Many businesses start broad, notice what resonates, and narrow over time. To see how focus turns into revenue, read how niche websites make money.
